Day 27: Responsibilities
Don't you love my artwork?
I've been meaning to do this forever! In recent months I've been extra inspired by some recent blog posts and my friend Susan. These are cards that show Ryann the steps it takes to get ready for school and also for bed. Our morning was sooo much nicer with these cards! She found the bedtime routine more fun, but it is so much easier to deflect a strange request or refocus a wandering preschooler with "Have you checked what comes next on your cards?" rather than my normal frustrated rants.

Day 26: Hungry
It's hard to tell from this picture, but this might be the biggest plate of spaghetti ever. I was very, very hungry and it was only with some restraint that this plate wasn't piled higher. Ryann needed to eat too, after all.
Completely homemade garlic bread. Cause that's how I roll.

Day 25: It's beautiful!
Ryann's reaction to a student art exhibit (I assume student... but I guess I'm not sure). As I was congratulating myself on exposing her to art and taking pictures she smeared two drawings. I still feel terrible for the work we messed up!

Day 23: Like a G6
I have a sound machine app on my phone that Ryann and I use to fall asleep (with vastly different preferences). I left her to pick out her sounds while I put some things away in the kitchen when I suddenly heard, "Poppin bottles in the ice.." coming from the bedroom. I walked in to see Ryann kicked back on the bed listening to Like a G6 and playing games. Not the relaxing bedtime ritual I was thinking about.

Day 22: Cookies
Sometimes we make cookies on a pizza pan instead of hunting for wherever I stuck the cookie sheet. Time was of the essence, as Ryann had been desperate for cookies all day.
Day 21: 7:04
Her alarm had been going off for four minutes. Even putting it on her ear did nothing. Waking Ryann up for school is impossible!
Day 20: Magic books
Ryann's stack of books proven NOT to have magic powers. She jumped on each one and not once did she magically transport into a book world.
Day 19: Overtired
Most of my shots for this 365 have been on the fly. I don't really think them out much or prepare, I just snap. But not this night. This night I had an idea. And a plan. It involved a tripod and slow shutter speeds and I was going to nail it!
And as I was congratulating myself I fell asleep right next to that cuddly bug you see above. So this picture was a quick snap at 2 am before I snuggled back into bed.
I plan to revisit this shot again before the year is up. Next time I won't fall asleep.

Day 14: Work birthdays
There are four birthdays in my office this month. It makes for a lot of cake. Despite its delicious looks, this cake was terrible.

Day 13: Going Home
Ryann on the way home from preschool. She was upset because I buckled her in too tight. Even though I didn't. I should have taken off her coat anyway, but I was anxious to get her in the car before she distracted herself into a 20-minute ritual as usually happens on the way home. In the first pic she is yelling that she doesn't want her picture taken. In the second (taken about 5 minutes later) she is sleeping off her frustration.
Today is my birthday and I kind of felt like I should have something birthday related here. Something focused on myself. Cake maybe... But these two pictures somehow encompass my day (and much of my life) so much better.

Day 2: RIP Betta Fish
After a long, long illness that I tried in vein to treat, our Betta died today. I was the only one in attendance for the burial as Ryann was at her dad's until after dark. Tomorrow we will have a proper ceremony.
